Dog-Friendly Norfolk

Quick answer:

Every mYminiBreak stay in Norfolk, UK is 100% dog-friendly: no breed ban, no “dogs on request”, dogs sleep with you in huts, yurt, cottages and on the pitch. Use year-round beaches at Old Hunstanton and Holme when Hunstanton main beach is restricted in season. Book direct at norfolkcoast-cottage.co.uk.

People do not come to North Norfolk, UK for a hotel that tolerates a dog in the car park. They come because the Coast Path, the dunes and the quiet inland woods work better when the dog is part of the trip, not an afterthought. mYminiBreak runs three open bases for that kind of stay: Hunstanton / Heacham on the West Norfolk coast, Holme-next-the-Sea on the Peddars Way and dunes, and Holt woodland inland by Holt Country Park.

This is the dog pillar under our Activities in Norfolk hub. It pulls together beaches, walks, pubs, stays and the honest seasonal rules. Tell us the dogs’ names when you book. We still need that for the pitch plan. We do not charge a dog tax for the privilege of turning up with your family.

1. Dog beaches, the honest map

Wide dog-friendly sandy beach and dunes on the North Norfolk Coast, UK
Open sand at Holme and Old Hunstanton is the default plan when the main Hunstanton front is closed to dogs in season.

Hunstanton main beach restricts dogs roughly from early April to the end of October (check the borough signs for the exact dates each year). That is real wildlife and amenity management, not a personal slight. Old Hunstanton beach and Holme-next-the-Sea beach are the year-round answers we give every guest who asks at check-in. Heacham North Beach is another practical option near the cottages.

Holkham is beautiful and popular. Parts of the National Nature Reserve have their own dog rules. Always read the National Trust and NNR boards on the day rather than trusting a three-year-old blog post.

2. Walks from the pitch

Coast Path and dune paths from Hunstanton and Holme. The first walk should not need a car.

A good dog stay starts with a walk that does not need a 20-minute drive first.

Hunstanton / Heacham coast

  • King Charles III England Coast Path access from the coastal properties
  • Old Hunstanton cliffs and lower beach loop
  • South toward RSPB Snettisham for birding days (dogs on leads around the reserve; check RSPB guidance before you go)
  • Neighbour landscape includes the rewilding project next door; stay on public paths, do not invent access

Holme-next-the-Sea

  • Dune and beach loops with big sky
  • Peddars Way meets the coast here
  • Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve: dogs on leads in protected sections
  • White Horse Holme bakery and pub after the walk (dog-friendly culture; confirm rooms on the day)

Holt woodland

  • Holt Country Park on the doorstep: marked trails, café outdoor seating culture
  • Walk toward Holt market town through the park on confirmed public access
  • Longer day: Restricted Byway 12 toward Baconsthorpe Castle ruins (English Heritage, dogs on leads)
  • Quieter inland base when the coast is windy or the dog needs shade

4. Pubs and food with a dog

Dog resting in a traditional North Norfolk country pub bar, dog-friendly pubs Norfolk, UK
Fox and Hounds Heacham, White Horse Holme, and Holt town cafés. Always ask which room on the day.

North Norfolk has a strong dog-in-the-bar culture, and it still depends on the room and the day. Always ask.

  • Fox and Hounds, Heacham, regular guest favourite near the coastal base; dogs usually welcome in the bar
  • White Horse Holme, bakery and pub around the corner from the Holme site story; check dog rooms when you arrive
  • Holt town, independent cafés and streets that suit a lead walk between shops

We do not invent menus or claim every landlord is the same. Site staff will tell you who is easiest that weekend.

Frequently asked questions

Are all mYminiBreak sites dog-friendly?

Yes. Hunstanton / Heacham, Holme-next-the-Sea and Holt woodland all welcome dogs. Dogs sleep with you in glamping, cottages, rooms and chalets, and stay with you on camping pitches under normal camping sense. Declare dogs when you book.

Is there a dog surcharge?

We do not run a “dogs on request” surcharge culture for standard stays. Cottage bookings may show a dog add-on at checkout depending on the live booking flow. Always complete the dog fields so we prepare the pitch or cottage properly.

Which Norfolk beaches allow dogs year-round near you?

Old Hunstanton and Holme-next-the-Sea are the year-round beaches we recommend most. Heacham North Beach is a practical option near the cottages. Hunstanton main beach usually bans dogs from roughly April to the end of October. Always read the signs on the day.

Can dogs go off-lead?

On open beach sections outside reserve cores, many guests run dogs under control when it is safe and legal. Inside National Nature Reserve cores, on the Coast Path near livestock, and around RSPB reserves, use a lead. We do not overrule a warden’s board.

Where should birders stay with a dog?

Coastal bases near Hunstanton and Holme put you close to Snettisham and Titchwell. Dogs are not a free pass inside hides. Plan a split: one person in the hide, one on a lead walk, or leave the dog resting on site for the high-tide window.

Is Holt a good base for dogs?

Yes. The woodland site sits by Holt Country Park. Holt has a strong dog-friendly town reputation. You can walk toward town and, on a longer day, toward Baconsthorpe Castle ruins on confirmed public rights of way.

Where do I book?

Book direct at norfolkcoast-cottage.co.uk. Dog-friendly accommodation overview: dog-friendly stays. Editorial hub: Norfolk Accommodation.

Do you still have a forest site further south?

No. That site is permanently closed. We only promote Hunstanton, Holme-next-the-Sea and Holt woodland.
